So here's a funny little story. Sarah and I
have been married for 16 years. We dated for about three years before that.
Her birthday has always been on July 30th, and even though I put it in red
in my calendar, I always think it's on the 31st. So this year I got it in
my mind that Sarah would have her birthday in Winnemucca. About three days
ago I realized my error. Sarah hadn't been paying attention to dates as they
related to the trip, so she always took my word for it that her birthday would
be in Winnemucca. She realized my error about five days ago. She enjoyed two
days of laughing behind my back wondering if I would ever figure it out.
Now this wouldn't really be an issue except that I had arranged for dinner
and a cake in Winnemucca as a surprise. Last May, when I was fishing with
my buddies Tom and Sam and I was boring them with details about my trip planning,
Sam mentioned that he had cousins in Winnemucca who owned a great Basque restaurant.
Perfect!
It all worked out okay, Sarah didn't mind having her birthday a day later
and the Kitchener's enjoyed a good laugh at my expense. She didn't suspect
that any arrangements had been made and we all had a great time.

We sang and embarrassed Sarah.

Sam's cousin, Steve. He and his
wife own the restaurant.

The restaurant is called Ormachea's. If you are ever traveling through Winnemucca
(which it seems everyone does at some point) you
must stop here for
dinner. The food is fantastic, two thumbs up. Tell Steve we said Hi.
Off topic here for a moment...
We saw a structure like this when we were driving though Nevada after we
left Las Vegas, and we saw this thing on the way to Winnemucca. Does anyone
have any idea what it is? It's not a giant bowling pin, and it appears to
use a lot of power.
