Winding River to Rock Springs
The morning brought sunshine and a renewed hope for clean
clothes. Sarah and Kevin rallied for a morning trail ride while Eric and
I packed up camp for a long day of driving ahead. The horseback ride was beautiful
through the hills and meadows at the National Park's edge, and along the
Colorado River. We're now planning to get some more rides in during the trip.
We now have a two day haul to Jackson Hole. Since the campground for tonight
wasn't preplanned, we adjusted the agenda to get as much mileage behind us
as we can today and thus shorten tomorrow's drive. We decided to go all the
way to Rock Springs, Wyoming, about 300 miles away. I know that doesn't sound
like much for you seasoned drivers, but we still wanted to see some of Grand
Lake and its environs before hitting the road, and there isn't anything
for a long time once you pass Rock Springs.
Lunch stop along Willow Creek.
Shane got to get out and swim again. He spent better than half an hour
running up and down the creek. Finally we were able to tire him out again.
Mmm. Snack stop in Wamsutter. Don't do this.
