End of Semester Shots
'After' photos for the ETC website. Our students all survived the semester, and they look pretty happy. Shot in a lobby at EA with a big empty wall and white ceiling to bounce the flash off of.

Shot for our ETC website - five of our CMU-ETC students after giving a presentation about their summer internships. I started shooting before everyone was 'posed', which which got everyone much more comfortable and helped them show some real personality.
Teaching has its definite perks. We took our CMU ETC students on a field trip to learn more about the Bay Area - and how better than from a couple thousand feet overhead. Airship Ventures to the rescue! We took off from Oakland, headed over the Bay Bridge, past SF, around Angel Island and back [...]
Class is back in session for our Carnegie Mellon Entertainment Technology Center students. We have two teams out here this semester, and as is customary I shoot team photos at the beginning and the end of the term. I went for an album cover look this time. Shot in a hallway at EA with plenty [...]
Trino is the result of two quarters worth of work by one of my student teams at Carnegie Mellon's Entertainment Technology Center (ETC). It's a wonderfully fun game for the XBOX, and you can download it from XBOX Community Games. Everyone on the team is graduating this Sunday, and we're going to miss them a [...]
I should have colored the glasses yellow. Did anyone NOT shoot pictures of people wearing 3D glasses today? This shot was taken at a Superbowl party with a bunch of my west coast CMU friends - all Steelers fans.
Eye of Sauron Another demo from our CMU ETC team working with the Magic Planet display. The Eye of Sauron will follow you around the room - it's pretty creepy. Details on the lighting: The high rim light came from overhead spot lights in the high ceiling, which also created the nice spills on the [...]
Seven of us had dinner in one of the many tiny restaurants on the fourth floor of a building abutting the fish market. I don't know how you would pick which one to eat at - our choice was basically made for us because the taxi drive phoned ahead and the owner was waiting by [...]
The Jagalchi Fish Market is a (the?) major wholesale fish market in Busan, South Korea. We visited in the evening, and the streets were lined with stalls of fresh fish, shellfish, and, well, other things. When we visited again after dinner a couple of hours later the fish were all being packed up into Styrofoam [...]
First view of Korea I just returned from the ICON2008 International Content Creator's Conference in Busan, Korea, which I was invited to attend as a keynote speaker. I was busy enough that I didn't post while on the trip, but I'm going to break the trip down into a few different posts here. [...]
