Taken at Bayfront Park in Menlo Park, CA. As I started color correcting this photo of two people watching the sunset, I found it interesting to take it in a very graphic direction.

A tough day for photography. I didn’t like anything I shot today, including the moonrise over Silicon Valley. So at 11pm I played around with my small Olympus and got a shot I could work with. I like the aggressive cropping here.

Taken from atop the Campanile at UC Berkeley (it’s a week of university towers!). I used the tilt-shift technique again, but this time to just focus the eye on the frisbee catcher – a small figure on a large field of green.

I’m in the process of cataloging a number of things that I have built over the years. This is a desk lamp built from an outdoor walkway light, a piece of pipe and flanges painted black, bolts and rubber feet. I also added a light switch on the bottom of the fixture.
For the photograph, I had to light the lamp very bright to balance out the lightbulb in the middle of the frame.

On the 23rd I tried to make a 2″ Yoda appear bigger. Today I went the other way – making something big look small. This is a photo of the Stanford Quad taken from Hoover Tower this afternoon. By adding some extreme depth of field in Photoshop and amping up the colors to make them look artificial, it takes on the impression of a model. It’s worth clicking on to see a bigger image. The technique is usually called “tilt-shift” and you can find plenty of other examples on flickr.
