This is a sculpture by Andy Goldsworthy installed at Stanford. It is made from sandstone recovered from buildings destroyed in the 1906 and 1989 earthquakes.

I love Goldsworthy’s work, and it’s wonderful to have a piece so close to home.

Photographing it was quite a challange – it’s difficult to convey the size and dimensions of the work.

Taken, surprisingly, during rush hour at the Powell Street BART station.

September 11, 2007 – How to Erase a Disk Drive

I really wanted to do this to my router around midnight last night when it decided not to work anymore, but I guess the cold concrete helped persuade it otherwise.

This felt good, too. There is some catharsis in exacting revenge on a drive that crashed.

September 10, 2007 – Russian Ridge Bike Trail

Another visit to Russian Ridge to go biking. The trail cuts through the grasses high above the valley fog.

September 9, 2007 – Drawer Pulls

I shot more images for my “Stuff I Built” page. This is a detail from the garage cabinets I built. I used hammerheads as the drawer pulls – they look right and feel good to use, too.

September 8, 2007 – Vuitton Window Display

Part of a window display at Stanford Shopping Center. The heads of the “pins” are about 4 inches in diameter.

September 7, 2007 – Roundness

As I was reviewing pictures I took today I found an odd theme – most of what I shot was round. Two flowers, a palm tree and a bunch of feathers. Any amateur psychiatrists out there?

September 6, 2007 – Leaf Shadow

This shadow fell naturally onto another leaf in surprising alignment.

September 5, 2007 – Neighborhood Watch

I’m taking more notice of my own neighborhood now. I had never noticed this sign a few doors down until I was walking my dog today. I want an attack squirrel, too!

September 4, 2007 – It’s Late

I shot pictures for two or three hours this evening, and nothing was any good, so I struggled to find something to post.

This is what happens when I stay up too late.
