Stacks of tangerines outside Whole Foods. We were zipping through some shopping so I only had time to click off some quick shots. I’d like to return later and refine this shot.

Kevin and I built a PC today. We’d ordered all the parts over the last couple of weeks and waited until today after he was out for vacation to do the assembly. Not a prize winning photo, but a documentation of what we did today.
Full details of the box, along with build photos in six steps starts here on Flickr.

Doesn’t everyone have one of these?
We moved into this house in July of ’03 and have tracked the height of our kids between the laundry room and the kitchen. ‘K’ was 11 and has grown a full foot since then. “GOAL” at the top is me.

This was the first time I’ve been up to the Stanford Dish, despite living here for 30 years. It was rainy today, but the sky broke and I headed up hoping to get good light.

They say “shoot what you know,” and I’ve been fighting a sore throat for a couple days, so I know a teapot.

Orchids in our living room.
The flowers are in front of a large mantle over our fireplace. The view here is from a low angle with the ceiling reflected behind them. I used the on-camera flash bounced off folded wax paper and my hand to hit the ceiling and not the orchids. The vignette behind the flowers is the hot spot on the ceiling from the flash reflected in the mirror. The light on the orchids is primarily bounced.

Still on my games theme. I don’t think this one is as successful as the dice or dominoes. The cards are even less predictable than the dice. This was closer to 5200 card pickup.
I think an off camera flash would help a lot – strong shadows from the side would add a lot of depth to the scene.
Maybe after Xmas I can give that a try. 😉

Following my theme from yesterday, falling game pieces.
Patience pays off. It took a few hundred dice tosses to get 14 that I liked, 4 that I really liked, and this one that’s my favorite. That and some trial and error with the lighting along the way.

Before I took this shot I didn’t appreciate how fast dominoes fall.
