November 25, 2007 – Why Deer Don’t Dance

37°23’3.45″N 122°10’32.84″W
While hiking with Sarah this morning in Arastradero Preserve we came across this deer carcass. It was surprisingly complete – missing only the front legs and lower jaw. One of the missing legs was about ten feet away.

It has been there at least a month, as I found another picture of it on Flickr taken on October 27th, in about the same state.

November 19, 2007 – Pigeon Vultures

Okay, so there really isn’t such a thing as a pigeon vulture, but this flock was in the Arastradero Preserve observing the fields from the top of a dead tree. They seemed very out of place.

The tree itself is a popular photo subject. If you search on Flickr for public pictures tagged with “arastradero” you’ll see the lone trunk show up quite often.

November 16, 2007 – Oak, Of The Poison Variety

37°33’44.57″N 122°23’46.49″W
I rode the length of Sawyer Camp Trail today, 12 miles round trip. The trail, which is paved, travels along Crystal Springs Lake and San Andreas Lake (both reservoirs).

This image is of poison oak growing up the side of an old abandoned water department shack.

November 10, 2007 – Saguaro Cactus

Looking up the spine of a saguaro cactus on Camelback Mountain in Arizona.

One of the things I love about my small Olympus camera is the ability to get it into tight spots for these unique angles. In addition to being small, the lens is in the corner of the camera, enabling it to get in even tighter.

November 6, 2007 – California Bayou

37°22’25.90″N 122°13’28.19″W
A low branch from a tree has sent down roots into Sausal Pond. The pond is unusually low, exposing the root works.

I’m disappointed with this image. The place itself has a mysterious and misplaced feeling about it (“bayou-esque”), which wasn’t captured in the photograph – I think early morning in the fog could nail it.

October 21, 2007 – Yellow Rose of Rancho Mirage

I’m visiting my mother in Palm Springs. She has a number of beautiful rose bushes in her yard – I shot this bloomin’ rose after dark.

October 16, 2007 – A Light Rain

We’re beginning to get some rain. This a small fern in our backyard today.

I went hiking today at Windy Hill, and it was a good day for pictures. This one is of cattails around Sausal Pond going to seed.

At my local Petco. Great expression on his face.

October 4, 2007 – Stevens Creek

37°17’48.77″N 122° 8’30.26″W
I mountain biked around a big loop off Skyline Boulevard this morning. About three miles of the trial was along Stevens Creek, which even in October has some water running in it. This picture was at the bottom of Grizzly Flat Trail.
