May 10, 2008 – Laser Cut Aztec Calendar

This is a closeup of an Aztec calendar laser cut into a piece of wood using an Epilog Laser. The face in the middle is about 3/8" across. I got this sample at the NAMM show, but TechShop in Menlo Park has one of the machines that members can use. I definitely want to get up to speed on this tool – you can use it on anything (TechShop was demoing it with tortillas at Maker Faire).

May 9, 2008 – My Lost Day

I had oral surgery this morning, so I wrote off getting anything significant done today. I never saw “Lost,” so I spent most of the day starting from the beginning. Pretty fun, but I”m afraid to imagine how much surgery it would take for me to completely catch up.

May 8, 2008 – A Short Walk to Nowhere

Bayfront Park in Palo Alto is a converted landfill bordering the San Francisco Bay. This short walkway heads out into what I believe was once one of the salt ponds. Then it stops.

May 6, 2008 – I’ve Been Framed!

No fancy photo today, I spent my photography time budget framing instead of shooting. This is one of the results – an 11″x14″ print of one of my Japanese Maple shots. I’m donating two prints to AACI for an auction fundraising event.

May 4, 2008 – Flaming Lotus Girl

At the Maker Faire in San Mateo, an event that is part off-season warm up for Burning Man and all DIY’ers. The Flaming Lotus Girls do sculptures featuring lots of fire, but evidently you don’t have to be female to be one of the girls.

May 3, 2008 – SF Wall Art

Seen on the side of a building on Market Street in San Francisco. The sign to the right of Jesus is for Market Street Cinema, which is probably one reason that he’s pissed.

May 2, 2008 – Moo Cards

I tried out Moo Cards. I got the basic set of 100, and used 24 different images for them, so I got 4 or 5 of each one. The back has my contact information, the title of the image and a copyright for the image.

The quality seems very good, and they’ll be a fun way to give out cards now. Two thumbs up.
