January 28, 2008 – Lighting Lesson
Learning about lighting with an exercise from stobist.
The exercise is to vary the apparent light source size, leaving everything else the same. The image on the left was taken with the flash bounced off a 42″ umbrella about two feet away from the maglite, creating a huge apparent light source. The middle shot was the flash shining directly on the maglite from about 18″ away, creating a source that is small but still big enough to soften the shadow a bit. The image on the right was with the flash about 8 feet away, becoming close to a point source of light.
