November 10, 2007 – Saguaro Cactus

Looking up the spine of a saguaro cactus on Camelback Mountain in Arizona.

One of the things I love about my small Olympus camera is the ability to get it into tight spots for these unique angles. In addition to being small, the lens is in the corner of the camera, enabling it to get in even tighter.

November 9, 2007 – The Wedding Photographer

This is an experimental photo I took at Dave and Bev’s wedding. I piggybacked on the wedding photographer’s flash – knowing when she was going to take a photo (mmm, cake!), I took a 1.5 second exposure with no flash. Her flash froze the action for me, but allowed me to get the blur of action.
I framed the shot to include the official photographer to help tell the story of the moment.

Scottsdale, AZ, in front of PF Chang’s. I like this crop on the image – the horse appears to have human-like shoulders.

November 7, 2007 – Grind and Glory Premiere

Grind and Glory, the documentary feature that we produced at Uth TV, premiered tonight at the Grand Lake Theater in Oakland. The screening was a fundraiser for Stop The Violence.

When I arrived, all the marquee said was “Grind and Glory”, and I thought that would be the perfect picture for today. By the time the film was over, the theater crew was already changing the signage back to their regular films, so I missed the opportunity to capture what I wanted. So instead I snapped this shot of the staffer replacing our film with “Bee Movie” from my old alma mater.

November 6, 2007 – California Bayou

A low branch from a tree has sent down roots into Sausal Pond. The pond is unusually low, exposing the root works.

I’m disappointed with this image. The place itself has a mysterious and misplaced feeling about it (“bayou-esque”), which wasn’t captured in the photograph – I think early morning in the fog could nail it.

November 5, 2007 – Puff Doggie

Shane got a major bath today and is now a giant furball. He’s relaxing on his stuffed puppy, which is in need of its own bath.

The corner fencepost of an abandoned corral in Windy Hill Open Space Preserve. I was actually more interested in the great clouds we had today.

November 3, 2007 – Metal Moose

This is another ‘thing’ I made in welding class at The Crucible. A total of four pieces of metal taken from the scrap bin. The antlers were the inspiration for the rest of the moose, as I found that piece as-is.

He lives in our garden now hidden amongst the plants, but I’m pretty sure he keeps the mountain lions at bay.

Photographed for my “Stuff I Built” page.

Riding along Russian Ridge this afternoon. I attached my small camera to the bike using a small tripod and velcro, then set the time delay and took off.
