Loaf 66 – Failed Sourdough
My friend Jason had some sourdough starter in his fridge that he uses for pizza, so I tried to use it to make a couple loaves of sourdough using the Tartine recipe. I fed a bit of his starter the night before, but it failed to really come to life by the next morning. I had a lot of other baking to do, so I quickly mixed together a batch using the flat starter anyway. No surprise, it didn’t work. After letting it proof for half a day it hadn’t risen at all; I tossed them without bothering to bake them.
I probably shouldn’t really count this as a loaf, but I did prove that if your starter isn’t active your loaf won’t be either.
