About

My name is Carl and I like to make things. In 2012 I’m going to learn to make great bread.

My first thought was to set a time frame for the project of maybe six months or a year, but I realized that unlike my A Picture A Day project the calendar wasn’t the proper way to measure progress. Quantity is the key, and I’d have to bake a lot of bread to experiment and learn, so I set a target of baking 100 loaves of bread. The time frame is loose, but I should be able to do it easily within 2012.

Here are my ground rules:

  • This isn’t 100 different kinds of bread, it’s 100 loaves. I’ll make the same type of bread many times as I get better at the basics and then learn more advanced techniques.
  • Multiple loaves from one batch of dough count only as one loaf, unless something unique is done to each loaf (such as different rising or baking times).
  • I don’t have to do it alone! Baking with other people can be fun, and I’ll want to learn from others and share some of my lessons. Loaves made in classes count as long as I was somehow involved in the process and learned from it.
